Zomba Trout Farm which was 100% owned by Government, was concessioned in 1997 for thirty years to Ku Chawe Trout Farm Limited for an initial entry fee of K100,000. Thereafter, the new operators pay an annual rental of K30,000 plus a revenue sharing based fee. |

VIPLY Ltd was sold to TS Rai Limited of Kenya in March 1999 for US$3.5 million and renamed Raiply Malawi Limited. Raiply proposed to purchase the assets of VIPLY free from any encumbrances including IFC loans. A large portion of the proceeds were committed towards settlement of those IFC claims. Smallholder Sugar Authority became Dwangwa Cane Growers Trust in September 1999 and it took over the assets, including land and buildings, and liabilities of SSA. The Trust also held the shares for Dwangwa Cane Growers Company, which handles the commercial activities of the former SSA on behalf of underlying investors (e.g. farmers and staff)to whom the shares in Dwangwa Cane Growers Company were sold in October 1999. |
